Battling through a total of 24 rounds overall, the top two spellers in each grade in the Beryl Henry Elementary School Spelling Bee will represent BHE at the Hempstead County Spelling Bee. Fifth grade winners were Kaden Brown, first; Gimena Heredia, second; and Maurice Hickman third. Brown won in eight rounds. Sixth grade winners were Armand Bowling, first; Thykah Walker, second; and, Kalijah Jenkins, third. Bowling won the sixth grade bee in eight rounds, with Walker and Jenkins battling another eight rounds for the alternate position. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools
