Year-end band honors presented

HOPE – Year-end honors announced recently marked the musical growth of the Hope Public Schools Bands program.

Outstanding soloists at the Four States Jazz Festival in early May were Brandon Gallegos, ninth grade tenor sax, and Wynter Smith, sixth grade alto sax.

HPS Bands Director Julie Gladden presented the following awards for the 2018-2019 marching and concert seasons:

Hope High School –

Best in class – Freshmen, Brandon Gallegos (woodwind), Jimmy Paredes (brass), Richard Ware (percussion); Sophomore, Ke’Ara Key (woodwind), Antonio Juanes (brass); Junior, Lawrence Adetunji (woodwind), De’Travonte Horton (brass), Damien Richmond (percussion); Senior, Mayra Garcia (woodwind), Erounnia Hearon (brass).

Most Improved – Julian Chapa, Katie Howard, Tianna Davis, and Darlene Matamoros.

Bobcat Award – Ilan Meija, Diego Ortiz, Shakira Arnett, Dahja Henderson, Wesley Smith, Ja’Marrion Logon, Tamera Henderson, Richard Ware, Jamesha Armstrong, Maliyah Richardson, Odalis Aldaba, Rebekah Fulton, and Katie Howard.

HHS Jazzcats –

Best in class – Wynter Smith, Brandon Gallegos (saxophone), Addison McEuen (trombone), Wesley smith (trumpet).

Most Improved – Ke’Ara Key and Abimael Lopez.

Most Valuable Player – Richard Ware.

Oustanding Soloist – Ja’Marrion Logan.

Middle School (mixed) Advanced –

Best in class – Jessie Hernandez (woodwind), Edith Dominguez (brass), Markell Mack (percussion).

Most Improved – Jaslyn Ellis and Eddrick Lard.

Bobcat Award – Emily Garcia, Abimael Lopez, Victor Serrano, Isaac Hellums, and T’kyah Walker.

Top Fundraisers – Abimael Lopez and Alisha Muldrew.

Middle School (mixed) Intermediate –

Best in class – Jennifer Gomez and Aniya Graham (woodwind), Kassidy Wingfield and Kaleb Bunn (brass), Isabella Garcia (percussion).

Most Improved – Jared Velazquez, Sarah Ward, and Romelo Ford.

Bobcat Award – Dallas Corbett and Matthew Bittle.

HAPS Beginner Band –

Best in class – Jesus Santamaria, Joelys Lopez (flute), Axel Yhoss (clarinet), Kayla Wyatt (saxophone), Isaiah Crocker (trumpet), Madelyn Maclaughlin (French horn), Addison McEuen (trombone), Jena Brown (euphonium), Vincent Marks (tuba), Kendrick Lockett (percussion).

Most Improved – Ty Clayton, Amaya Ridgeway, Brian Jiminez, and Alex Hernandez.

Bobcat Award – Angelica soto, Brianna Maclaughlin, Jeanette Bautista, Jose Martinez, Grace Patterson, Dani Thomason, Miley Hall, Yoshigel Gonzalez, Zuarny Leyva, Jair Salgado, Maleki Briggs, Kayla Wyatt, Jaydon Sanders, and JaMiya Sanders.

HAPS Intermediate Band –

Best in class – Aubrey Hart, Nadia Longoria, Graedela Perez (woodwind); Trenton Hart (brass).

Most Improved – Shelby Gilbert and Tommi Gibson.

Beryl Henry Beginner Band –

Best in class – Ari Juanes and Isabell Barnett (flute), Melani Balbuena (clarinet), Saul Hernandez (saxophone), Jared Salazar (trumpet), Chyria Toliver (French horn), Evan Himes (trombone), JaKhari Johnson (euphonium), Shabreea Davis (tuba), and Jacorey Morrison (percussion).

Most Improved – Abigail Contreras and Ezekiel Contreras.
