Transportation schedules largely same

HOPE – Hope Public Schools District car line and school bus transportation schedules and queues will remain generally unchanged for the 2019-2020 school year.

Construction expected to occur along the 600 block of West Sixth Street at the Hope Academy of Public Service campus may foster changes at HAPS later in the year.

“There will not be any changes until we know about Sixth Street,” HAPS Principal Dr. Carol Ann Duke said.

Parents should contact their child’s campus office to learn about any changes in bus routes, HPSD Transportation Director Maurice Henry said.

“We encourage parents to get to know their child’s bus driver,” Henry said.

Parents should use the “Here Comes the Bus” application online to learn more specific information regarding their child’s pickup and delivery. Henry said a link to the application will be made available on each campus website.

Henry also asks that parents of young students, particularly kindergarten-age, to accompany children to daily pickup and drop off sites for safety purposes; and, parents should arrive five to 10 minutes early each day for both pickup and drop off to enhance student safety.

Henry said copies of the district transportation handbook will be available to students during Open House on Aug. 8. Classes will begin on Aug. 13.

Yerger Middle School

Students at YMS arriving and departing campus by bus will arrive on campus at 7 a.m. on the cafeteria side of the campus off Henry C. Yerger Street and will depart the same way at 3:20 p.m., according to Principal Josclyn Wiley.

Car riders should arrive beginning at 7:15 a.m. and depart beginning at 3:20 p.m. on the main office side of the campus off East Ninth Street, Wiley said.

Parents in the car line are asked to line up beside the fence on East Ninth Street, and not block the faculty/staff parking lot entrances, or impede through traffic on the other side of the street.
