Homeschool forum slated

HOPE – Hope Public School District Superintendent Bobby Hart will meet Tuesday night with parents of homeschooled children who live within the Hope district to offer them resources for their children.

Hart will meet in an open forum with parents interested in the idea Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Hope High School cafeteria.

Under state law, homeschooled students residing in a public school district may be afforded resources of the district if they are enrolled in the district. Homeschooled students may soon have the opportunity to enroll in as many as six classes, based upon pending legislation.

Hart wants to explain the resources and opportunities which homeschooled children may access through the HPSD, including participation in athletics, band, other extracurricular activities and academic classes.

The district has virtual instructional capabilities, as well, and the software and hardware necessary to deliver it are provided by the district, Hart said.
