First library card

Maria Gutierrez, of Hope, smiles at receiving her Hempstead County Library Card, the first one issued under the provisions of the national Mexican identification card system, as introduced locally by Mexican Consul Rodolfo Quilantan-Arenas in connection with a Hispanic-language textbook donation. The grades K-6 textbooks were provided to the county library as well as a donation to the Hope Public Schools to help Hispanic parents develop Spanish-language literacy skills for their children. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools
