STAR Academy seeks student actors

HOPE – Eeeek! Whodunit? There is foul play afoot and the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council is calling upon students in grades 1-12 to resolve it.\r\n

\r\n

Registration for the SWAARC STAR Academy summer program has opened for the production of “The Chalk Outline,” a murder mystery theater camp set July 10-14. Registration will close July 5.\r\n

\r\n

Directed by Ouachita Baptist University theater and oral communications education graduate Abby Curry, of Arkadelphia, the production will focus upon “improvisational” acting. Using a murder mystery script as a foundation, Curry will take the students through all aspects of theater production, but with a twist.\r\n

\r\n

No-one will know the outcome, including the play cast, until the night of performance.\r\n

\r\n

Cast membership is limited to 30 students, and will vary based upon final registration numbers. Students who do not desire to participate in the performance will assist with other aspects of theatrical production.\r\n

\r\n

Tuition, which includes the cost of a STAR Academy tee shirt, is $50 for non-SWAAC members and $45 for SWACC members.\r\n

\r\n

The summer program is set from 1-5 p.m. daily, July 10-14, at Hempstead Hall on the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana campus.\r\n

\r\n

“The Chalk Outline” will be performed at Hempstead Hall on July 14 at 6 p.m.\r\n

\r\n

Students are required to complete a registration form, along with separate medical/liability release form and return them to the SWAAC by contacting Allison Wilson at 479-530-0684 during business hours. Registration forms will also be available during the SWAAC sponsored Community Coffee set for 9:30 – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Arts Station, 200 E. Division St.\r\n

\r\n

Forms may also be obtained at the main lobby desk at Hempstead Hall.\r\n

\r\n

Parents are required to arrange for students to be dropped off and picked up during the week of the academy.\r\n
