HPS, HCEDC seek internship partners

HOPE – The Hope Public Schools, in collaboration with the Hempstead County Economic Development Corp., is seeking business and industry partnerships for an internship program that will offer HPS students employment while in school and a clear path to employment opportunities after graduation.

HPS Superintendent Dr. Bobby Hart and HCEDC President Steve Harris invite local and area business and industry leaders to attend a “partnership luncheon” Feb. 25 in the MAC conference room at Hope High School.

“It is an industry meeting to explain the proposed program,” Harris said. “Right now, it is in the concept stage; and, it may become different for different businesses.”

The luncheon and discussion from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. will provide conceptual information drawn from a successful program operated by the Palestine, Texas, Independent School District.

Dr. Hart said Hope businessman Charles Eldridge, who has business interests in Palestine, brought the idea to him and Harris.

“We look forward to helping our students and our community partners,” Hart said. “The possibility of providing relevant work experience, and also provide area businesses with trained future employees, is one that I hope our community will take advantage of through this partnership.”

Hart said at least 10 internship partners are needed to develop the program. Business and industry representatives interested in attending the luncheon meeting are asked to contact Harris at 870-777-8485.
