Premium sale good for FFA

HOPE – The Hope High School Future Farmers of America chapter was represented by nine members in the 2017 Hempstead County Fair Premium Sale with show animals that brought $6,379 in sale and add-on cash.\r\n

\r\n

Taken together with the $6,356 in sale and add-on cash received by junior exhibitors from Beryl Henry Elementary School and the Hope Academy of Public Service, Hope Public Schools students earned some $12,735 in sale and add-on premium money.\r\n

\r\n

Nine FFA members and five junior exhibitors were among the 34 exhibitors whose prize-winning livestock was sold at the annual event Sept. 1 at Hope Fair Park Coliseum.\r\n

\r\n

HAPS student Lane Lockhart topped all Hope exhibitors with $2,106 for his reserve champion heifer which went to South Arkansas Electric Co. for $270 at sale, with $1,836 in add-on premiums.\r\n

\r\n

FFA member Cody Lockhart’s second place commercial heifer brought $300 at sale to Diamond Bank, with $1,680 in add-on premiums, for a total sale of $2,020.\r\n

\r\n

HAPS student Harlie Lockhart’s grand champion shorthorn Charlois sold for $300 to Diamond Bank, with $1,680 in add-on premiums to total $1,980 at sale.\r\n

Other FFA exhibitors included Clarence Mayberry, market hog, $150 sale to Diamond Bank and $355 add-on; Marco Torres, market hog, $250 sale to Amigo Juan Mexican Restaurant and $254 add-on; Savana Collins, market hog, $200 sale to Super 1 Foods and $346 add-on; Kelbi Campbell, market hog, $250 sale to Farm Credit Services and $586 add-on; and Julie Hensley, market hog, $150 sale to Fulton Grass Co. and $316 add on.\r\n

Also, Sydney Parrish, rabbits, $120 sale to Diamond Bank and $271 add-on; Mayra Garcia, rabbits, $100 sale to Farm Credit Services and $335 add-on; and, Shelbi Godwin, first place heifer, $200 sale to South Arkansas Electric Co. and $476 add-on.\r\n

\r\n

Other junior exhibitors included Justin Loe, $210 sale to Tyson Foods and $315 add-on; Carlie Beck, grand champion rabbits, $200 sale to Tyson Foods and $795 add-on; and, Sarah Ward, rabbits, $325 sale to Tyson Foods and $425 add-on.\r\n
