HOPE – The combined fifth and sixth grade choirs from Beryl Henry Elementary School recently participated in the celebration of Music in Our Schools Month at the Arkansas Capitol.

“Arkansas Music Educators Association, in collaboration with the National Association for Music Education, does a two-day celebration in Little Rock at the State Capitol, ‘The Capitol Concerts,’” BHE music teacher Sandra Jones said.

The BHE combined choirs performed March 16, Jones said.

“During these two days, choirs and instrumentalists from all around the state participate in concerts where individual groups perform; then for the finale, the entire group performs one big concert,” she said.

The BHE solo choir performance was a rendition of “Kindhearted Hand.” Jones said the combined schools’ choirs performed a concert of eight pieces, including “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Enter With Singing,” “Celebrar el Dia” (Celebrate the Day), “The Moon,” “Dona Nobis Pacem” (Latin hymn), “I’ve Been to Haarlem,” “J’Entends le Moulin” (French), and “I Sing Because I’m Happy.”

“The students from BHE represented our school and city very well,” Jones said.
