HOPE – The Hope Academy of Public Service sent its first class of ninth grade students into high school during recent year-end honors conducted at Hempstead Hall.
\r\nHAPS Principal Dr. Carol Ann Duke expressed her pride in the first group from the expanded cohort at HAPS to make the transition as students in the Hope Public School District now are eligible for participation in a pilot program that will serve as the basis for a planned Hope Collegiate and Professions Academy on the University of Arkansas – Hope campus.\r\n
\r\nThat class will be housed in the Johnny Rapert Library Complex, which is undergoing remodeling to accommodate the program.\r\n
\r\n“I know that you will all make us proud,” Duke said.\r\n
\r\nDuke also announced the 2017-2018 “50th Boy and 50th Girl” at the HAPS campus, who represent the ideals portrayed in the 1923 essay by educator Dr. Frank Crane. The two students reflecting those ideals were Calvin Haynes and Jaci Johnson.\r\n
\r\nThe Public Service Helping Hands Award, representing students who most embody the public service model of HAPS, was presented to to Oscar Martinez and Axel Yhoss.\r\n
\r\nThe HAPS Student Council Award, for distinguished leadership within student government, was presented to Katie Arroyo.\r\n
\r\nThe Volunteer Award went to Oscar Bruno and Samantha Ventura.\r\n
\r\nStudents of the Month recognized by McDonalds of Hope included Corinthian Brown, Payton Rhodes, Suvari Marshall, Za’Kiah Randle, Oscar Marquez, and Nakhia Booker.\r\n
\r\nRobotics honors were presented to Amber Cisneros and Aaron Smith, Most Dependable; Juan Leon, Team Leader; and Lili-Ann Adamson, Engineering.\r\n
\r\nJournalism honors went to Amber Cisneros and Kennedy Phillips.\r\n
\r\nEAST honors were presented to Tommi Grigson and Jesus Santamaria, The Service Heart; Timothy Minney and Joseph Postlewait, Inquiring Minds; and Juan Leon and Skyler Wilburn, Spirit of EAST.\r\n
\r\nInnovation awards included Most Improved, Anahi Arroyo and Giovanni Vargas; Best All-Around, Kennedy Phillips; Most Creative, Saniyah Walker; and Student Project Choice, Angelite Martinez.\r\n
