Students in Shirley Miller’s art classes at Yerger Middle School were surprised to learn that recently completed art projects using photography, sketching and multi-media were judged by a jury of the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council. Miller said the students had no idea their work would be competitively appraised. Winners from the judging by Anna Powell, Jon Hollis, and Brian Berry included: Photography – Dabria Manton, first, Jordan Faulkner, second, Dabria Manton, third, and Eric Barton, honorable mention; string art – Erika Juarez, first, Magaly Moreno, second, Jazmin Martinez, third, and Natori Glenn, honorable mention; and drawings – Celeste Jetton, first, Jazmin Martinez, second, third and honorable mention. Miller said she was pleased with the students’ effort, and she hoped to make the art showing an annual tradition at Yerger.
