HOPE – A well-known name and face about Hope joined honorees of the Hope High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps here Oct. 12 as the fourth HHS Honorary Sports Captain of 2018.\r\n

\r\n

Chief Warrant Officer Paul G. Henley, parks and recreation director for the City of Hope for many years, was recognized and participated in the coin toss at mid-field at Hammons Stadium prior to the Hope Bobcats’ gridiron match against Hot Springs-Lakeside.\r\n

\r\n

CWO Henley is a 36-year veteran of the 1^st Battalion, 153^rd Infantry Regiment, Arkansas Army National Guard, having served at the Hope and Malvern armories as CWO for personnel.\r\n

\r\n

“CWO Henley represents our Reserve and National Guard members who have volunteered to serve as citizen guardians of our state and nation, answering the call to be ready at a moment’s notice to assist when called upon by the Governor or the President,” Lt. Col. (Ret.) Mark Hart, AFJROTC senior aerospace science instructor, said. “We are proud of your service and thank you for being an example of leadership mentoring to our cadets and the community.”\r\n

CWO Henley was sponsored by McDonald’s of Hope.\r\n

\r\n

“We also thank McDonald’s for their support of our AFJROTC, and partnering in recognizing our brave men and women who have served with honor,” Lt. Col. Hart said.\r\n

\r\n

The HHS Honorary Sports Captain program is intended to promote recognition of local military service veterans at all Hope High School home sporting events.\r\n

\r\n

Previous honorees have included U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (Ret.) James R. Jones, of Hope, and U.S. Marine Corps First Sergeant (Ret.) Leon Prince, of Hope, and Airman Alison Jones, of Hope.\r\n

\r\n

The HHS AFJROTC is supported through sponsorships of each Honorary Sports Captain, including monetary donations, or products and services needed by the cadet unit for community service events, Hart said.\r\n

\r\n

Honorees may be nominated by anyone in the community, and are chosen from the nominee pool by the cadet unit, he said.
