Yerger honors local veterans

Local military veterans were recognized in ceremonies on Nov. 12 at Yerger Middle School that recalled the establishment of the annual holiday from the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. The Hope High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps presented the colors, and YMS teacher Jennifer Stevens recited the poem “In Flanders Field,” written to commemorate the American war dead. YMS Parental Involvement Coordinator Kayla Jones thanked veterans in attendance for their service and sacrifice. A hamburger supper was provided for the occasion by Scott Brown and Don Worthey from Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home, and Super 1 Foods, Save-A-Lot, and Chicken Express of Hope. – Ken McLemore/Hope Public Schools\r\n
