HHS students take Reading Fair honors

Hope High School ninth and tenth grade students won or placed in four categories and won the People’s Choice Award in both grade divisions at the Southwest Arkansas Educational Cooperative Reading Fair.

Winning the People’s Choice Award were Kaylee Johnson, ninth grade, and Asia Stockdale, tenth grade.

Category competition awards received by HHS students included:

Ninth grade –

Fiction Project Board – Montavious Eason, first place; and Kaylee Johnson, third place.

Fiction Technology – Rebekah Fulton, first place; Iian Mejia, second place; and, Alana Flenory, third place.

Tenth grade –

Fiction Project Board – Ashanti Phillips, first place; Asia Stockdale, second place; and, Na’Tyja White, third place.

Fiction Technology – Faith Barnett, second place.

HHS English teacher Courtney Howard, HHS teams sponsor, was pleased with the outcome.

“Our students were outstanding in representing themselves, their projects, and our school district,” Howard said.

Ten students from the freshman and sophomore classes at HHS participated in the second annual event Jan. 31, also marking the second year of competition by HHS students.

Team members included:

Ninth grade – Alena Flenory, Kaylee Johnson, Rebekah Fulton, Iian Mejia, Montavious Eason, and Gianna Knight.

Tenth grade – Ashanti Phillips, Faith Barnett, Na’tyja White, and Asia Stockdale.
