HHS students invited by Phi Theta Kappa

Four Hope High School students in the concurrent credit program at the University of Arkansas Community College Hope-Texarkana have been invited to join the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa international honor student society at UAHT.

“Phi Theta Kappa is the official international society of two-year colleges,” PTK sponsor Amanda Maggio said. “We had a total of 129 UAHT students invited to join PTK this semester.”

HHS invitees included Daisy Aguilar, Oathis Ward, Lawrence Adetunji, and Maggie Haynes.

The students are attending UAHT through the HHS Concurrent Credit Program.

“Concurrent credit students are not treated any differently than regular college students, and the courses that concurrent students take are real college courses,” Maggio said. “If they have earned 12 credits that can be counted toward an associate degree and have earned a 3.5 grade point average, they are eligible to join PTK.”

Membership invitations are determined at the beginning of each semester based upon GPA, and transcript data.

“They will become official members if they accept their invitations and pay their membership dues,” Maggio said.

Induction ceremonies for new members is set for March 26 at 6 p.m. at Hempstead Hall on the UAHT campus.
