HPS packs holidays with cheer

HOPE – Hope Public Schools students are about to pack the calendar with loads of holiday cheer, from special events to holiday projects prior to the annual Christmas break.\r\n

Clinton Primary School kindergarten classes kick off the season with a holiday program at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the CPS cafeteria. The program is open to the public.\r\n

\r\n

The Hope Public Schools bands program will present its Winter Concert for parents, families and the public Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. at Hempstead Hall on the University of Arkansas-Hope campus.\r\n

\r\n

Clinton Primary School first grade students from Ms. Lively’s class go caroling in Hope on Dec. 17. Students under the direction of Jonathan Bradford will open with a presentation at the Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce at 9:30 a.m., and will drop in at various downtown businesses. The students will sing for residents at Heather Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 10 a.m., and they will perform at Hope Haven Retirement Center at 10:30 a.m.\r\n

Holiday fun for the entire family takes the stage at Beryl Henry Elementary School on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m., as the BHE Parent-Teacher Organization presents its holiday-themed program “’Tis the Season.” The program is open to the public, according to PTO President Inell Thornton.\r\n

\r\n

Faculty and staff at Hope High School bring in the holidays Dec. 20 with the annual HHS Potluck Lunch in the HHS cafeteria. The menu will begin with meat dish, baked potato and dessert provided, and faculty and staff will be responsible for side dishes. Rosalyn Dennis is in charge of arrangements.\r\n

FUNDRAISERS, DONATIONS\r\n

The Ladycat Softball team has concluded its Christmas fundraiser selling Farmhouse Candles, and order payments or questions about orders should be directed to Jennifer Robbins at Hope High School.\r\n

Girl Scout nut and candies orders have arrived and can be obtained by contacting Rebekah Fulton at 870-33-7122 anytime.\r\n

Hope Academy of Public Service EAST program students of Jackie Brady are raising funds through holiday gift wrapping services through Dec. 18. Students will be available in the EAST room at the HAPS campus weekdays to wrap boxed-only gifts. Small boxes are $1 each, with medium gifts at $2 and large boxes at $3 each. The Aramark Angels in the student nutrition department of the Hope Public Schools are raising funds to provide Christmas cheer to needy children in the Hope area. Chef Nick Collins and his angels are offering an array of holiday desserts that will complete any celebration or holiday gathering.\r\n

\r\n

Orders will be taken through Dec. 17 for pickup at the Hope High School cafeteria on Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.\r\n

\r\n

A printable order form template is available at www.hpsdistrict.org online, and can be returned to any HPS cafeteria or emailed to nutt-cortney@aramark.com online.\r\n

\r\n

Offerings include cookies, brownies, pies, peanut butter balls, Oreo balls, cake balls, cakes, cupcakes and an “ugly Christmas sweater” cake. Prices range from $10 per dozen for cookies and brownies, $20 each for pies, $10 per dozen for variety balls, $35 for cakes, and $20 per dozen for cupcakes.\r\n

Purchases of five dozen items get a sixth dozen free and mix and match of varieties is accepted.\r\n

\r\n

“All proceeds go to Aramark Angels, a fundraiser to purchase Christmas gifts for children in need,” Collins said.\r\n

\r\n

The Hope High School Robotics Team is selling team tee shirts to raise funds for its next competition. Orders should be placed with pre-payment before Dec. 17, and deliveries are anticipated after Jan. 6, according to Kathy Knight, faculty sponsor.\r\n

All sizes from small through XXL are $15 each. Contact Knight or any robotics team member for order information.\r\n

The Yerger Middle School Leo Club, the youth adjunct of the Hope Lions Club, is sponsoring a sock drive for residents at Heather Manor. The students are working to provide each resident of the facility with a pair of warm socks for Christmas, according to club sponsor Dr. Linda Clark. HOLIDAYS\r\n

The Hope Public Schools will be dismissed for the Christmas and New Year holidays from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3.\r\n

\r\n

Classes will dismiss early Dec. 19 and 20, and will not resume until 8 a.m. Jan. 6, 2020.\r\n
