HOPE – Applications for the 2021-2022 academic year at the Hope Academy of Public Service are now open, but will not remain open long.

“Applications are available at the HAPS office and on the district website at www.hpsdistrict.org and will be accepted until 3 p.m. on March 31,” HAPS Principal Dr. Carol Ann Duke said. “Any student interested in attending HAPS must apply for admission. Once admitted, the student must meet specific expectations in order to continue enrollment.”

Students applying must demonstrate a record of advanced academic success, excellent attendance, good conduct and work habits. Currently enrolled HAPS students are NOT required to re-apply, Dr. Duke said.

“Students will be required to complete an application, an Academic and Behavior Questionnaire and submit prior school records,” she said. “All students will be required to complete an Entrance Assessment.”

Marilyn Marks, HAPS counselor, will work through the applicant’s current Hope Public Schools campus to schedule an assessment visit and STAR Reading and Math assessments compliant with COVID-19 protocols, Duke said.

“Students who are currently not enrolled in the Hope Public Schools will be scheduled by Mrs. Marks on a case-by-case basis,” she said.

Students who rank highest in assessments will be offered enrollment based upon a standard rubric. A sample rubric is available with the enrollment packet online.

Additional openings developed during the summer months will be filled in rank order, and no new students will be admitted after the first 10 days of the 2021-2022 school year, Duke said.

Students who enroll in the Hope Public Schools district after the close of the application period March 31 will be allowed to submit an application to HAPS.

Applications may be downloaded during the official period at www.hpsdistrict.org/o/academy-of-public-service online.

Duke said the HAPS campus will be closed during Spring Break from March 22-26.
