HHS Band prepares 'Machine'

HOPE – The Hope High School Bobcat Marching Band program will be busy this summer building the “Machine” in preparation for a new concept in marching band show competition in the fall.

Hope Public Schools Bands Director Julie Gladden said 2019 marching season show entitled “Machine” is unique.

“Machine is a concept show that utilizes the concepts of machinery parts, metals and moving gears,” Gladden said. “It is a high-energy show with catchy melodies that are sure to be crowd pleasers.”

Preparations for the fall presentation begin July 15-17 with a leadership training camp for color guard and flag line, which has already begun to garner recognition from recent awards at frontlines, drum major and color guard camp at Walnut Ridge for leaders Shakira Arnett, Lawrence Adetunji and Ka’aijisiah Cox.

“These three awesome HHS Band students received various awards through the week, including blue ribbons for superior, red ribbon for excellent, and white ribbon for all star,” Gladden said. “They also brought home two superior trophies for their grand champion routine.”

A mandatory band camp preparatory meeting will be held July 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the HHS band hall, she said.

“We will be discussing camp, filling out forms, and checking out instruments in preparation for camp,” Gladden said.

The full Bobcat Marching Band will begin building “Machine” during a week-long camp at the Camp Preston Hunt facility near Texarkana July 29 – Aug. 3, she said.

Competition performance dates for the band this fall include: Sept. 28 – Pleasant Grove Marching Invitational; Oct. 5 – Four States Marching Contest; Oct. 12 – Hope Marching Invitational Contest; Oct. 22 – South Zone Region II Marching Assessment (hosted by Hope High School); and, Nov. 5 – State Marching Contest (determined by qualification).
