County fair sale supports students

Hope High School ninth grade student Harlie Lockhart showed the top selling animal among Hope Public Schools students participating in the 2019 Hempstead County Fair Premium Sale here Aug. 30. Harlie’s Grand Champion Shorthorn Heifer garnered a pre-commission total of $1,903 in bid and add-on money in the sale. HPS students exhibiting prize-winning animals sold their livestock for a pre-commission total of $9,525. Ten students from Hope campuses, participating through the Hempstead County 4H Club and HHS Future Farmers of America, exhibited prize-winning animals during the fair, and will compete at the Third District Fair at Hope Fair Park Sept. 24-28 for an opportunity to advance to the Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock. Hope exhibitors participating in the sale included Lockhart; Brianna Cole, Best of Breed Buck-Lionhead; Lane Lockhart, Grand Champion Hereford Bull; Jaci Johnson, Best of Breed Buck-Holland Lop; Sydney Parish, Grand Champion Chi Heifer; Ava McWilliams, Best of Breed Doe-English Spot; Peyton Parker, First Place Commercial Heifer; Sarah Ward, First Place Doe-Mini Rex; DeTravonta Horton, Second Place Commercial Heifer; and, Jordan Parish, First Place Doe-Lionhead.
