HOPE – The Hope High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps AR-20101 passed its most recent Headquarters Inspection with the highest marks in the local unit’s history.

Inspector Chief Master Sergeant (ret.) R. Wayne Barron awarded the unit a “Meets Standards” score in six of seven criteria, plus CMSgt. Barron awarded the HHS campus administration an “Exceeds Standards” rating for outstanding administrative support of the program, instructor support and quality of facilities, according to Senior Aerospace Science Instructor Lieutenant Colonel (ret.) Mark Hart.\r\n

“I had a great visit today with some up and coming cadets,” CMSgt. Barron said. “Things are starting to come together for AR-20101. Brand new ASI (Aerospace Science Instructor) is on board and the SASI (Senior Aerospace Science Instructor) starting his second full year. I’m expecting great things from this team of instructors and cadets. Keep climbing.”\r\n

Lt. Col. Hart said the inspection criteria is exacting.\r\n

\r\n

“This inspection covers seven areas of School Administration, Instructor Compliance, Instructor Performance, Equipment Management, Leadership Development, Cadet Operations, and Unit Operations,” he said. “The inspector was examining cadets on how they operated independently, led the Corps, took ownership of leading, and maintained standards of the Air Force such as wearing the uniform properly, dress and appearance, marching, maintaining equipment and logistics, and briefing on the status of the program.”\r\n

\r\n

Hart said the program received its highest rating since its first year in 2010.\r\n

\r\n

“Inspections are accredited for three years, placing the next inspection during the 2022-2023 school year,” he said.\r\n

\r\n

Individually, Cadet Second Lieutenant Gianna Knight was given the “Top Performer” award by Barron. Cadet 2Lt. Knight led the unit in its 30-Command Drill Sequence during mass formation inspection in the HHS MAC multipurpose facility. \r\n

“This is huge news for our school,” HHS Principal Bill Hoglund said in an email to faculty and staff. “Congratulations to all our cadets, Col. Hart and Sgt. (Jeremy) Grice.”\r\n
