HOPE – The Hope Public School District is cleaning out a few attics in anticipation of selling more than almost 400 surplus items at public auction Jan. 30.

Auctioneer Don Honea will conduct the sale for the district beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the HPSD Bus Compound, 921 W. Ave. B, in Hope.

“This is surplus inventory, or items that are not used anymore,” HPSD Assistant Superintendent for Transportation/Facilities Steve Bradshaw said.

Bradshaw said some of the items at auction are simply no longer used, such as a number of “smart board” screens, because they have been replaced with newer technology.

All auction items to be sold will be either on site at the bus compound or a representative item of certain lots will be on display. Bradshaw said some items designated for the sale, such as student desks, many of which are in storage, must be collected by the buyer.

He said items are to be auctioned from the former Edith Brown Elementary School, the transportation compound, and the district food services warehouse.

“The auction will be at the bus compound site,” Bradshaw said.

He said all items will be sold “as is,” and buyers will be responsible for removal of their purchases. Specific terms of sale and other questions concerning the sale may be directed to the transportation office at 870-777-2790 or 870-722-2717.

Among items set for the sale are a Kubota L-2800 tractor; a John Deere SyncReverser tractor; a 6’ Bush Hog finish mower; a 5’ Bush Hog bush mower; a 6’ finish mower; a high-pressure steam cleaner; 20’ conveyor belt with motor; 5’ window exhaust fan; 9’ welding table; five sets of concrete steps; four angle iron tables; two X-Mark riding lawnmowers (one needs new engine); a Rockwell drill press; a Delta table saw; a Linde wire welder; and one 15’ joint of 4.5” pipe; and five 20’ joints of 3.5” pipe.

Bradshaw said some items were formerly used in the agricultural studies program of the district, but may no longer be equipped with safety devices or shields required for student use.

Among school and office items included in the sale are approximately 125 medium and large student desks; some 70 primary school desks without seats; about 30 K-1 desk chairs; some 35 grades 2-4 small desks; about 20 grades K-3 small desks; and a variety of lockers, file cabinets, desks, chairs, and about 55 tables from 4’-6’ in length, as well as about 20 computer tables.

Some of the food service items included in the sale are two food service warmers; a meat grinder; a triple stainless steel sink; a chest freezer; 6’ stainless steel bread table; seven silverware baskets; four deep fry baskets; two rolling carts; two boxes of trash can lids; 15 brown baskets; and a salad bar on wheels.
