STAR academy sign-up slated

The Southwest Arts Council is accepting applications for its annual STAR Academy theater workshop and stage production. The week-long training sessions (8 a.m. to noon) are scheduled for July 22-26.

Following the workshop, a performance featuring all students will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 26.

Allison Wilson, STAR Academy coordinator, said this year’s production is an old-timey melodrama with parts for 30 kids.

“We are accepting students in the first grade through high school, Wilson said. “STAR Academy places fill up fast. We encourage anyone interested to fill out registration and medical forms for each child as soon as possible.”

The deadline for registration is July 1.

Forms are available at the SWAAC Arts Station, 200 E. Division St., in Hope from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday; to receive registration forms by email, contact gsid143@gmail.com online.

The cost of the workshop and production is $50 for children of members and $65 for non-members, with a $10 discount for second and third participants per family. A limited number of scholarships are available. Call 870-777-8200 for more information, or contact George S. Smith, Executive Director, Southwest Arkansas Arts Council, 501-259-8545.
