hps receives anonymous donation

HOPE, AR - Hope Public Schools has received an unprecedented $660,000 donation for the purpose of upgrading and expanding offerings in the Agri programs offered by the District. The donors, who wish to remain anonymous, said, “the donation (is to) be used to complete improvements and expansion of the Agriculture education program and various other projects that were included in the planned usage of the 12 mill increase to local property tax had that increase been approved by voters.” Agri and the agricultural business is a leading industry in Hempstead County.

The donation will be used in conjunction with Arkansas Department of Education matching funds up to $434,000 for repairs to the Agri Building. Superintendent Dr. Crossley said, “There are plumbing, HVAC, and structural upgrades that are needed. Because of the donation, we will be able to expand the Agri Building learning spaces, including the addition of expanded Animal Sciences programs.” Hope Public Schools will also work with city and county officials in order to oversee the construction of a show barn which will house animals for which students and teachers will provide care.

Dr. Crossley stated, “We are thrilled to be able to extend these opportunities to our students now and in the future.” KINCO Construction will oversee the project starting in Spring 2024. Initial improvements will focus on areas which will not directly interrupt student learning. The remaining, and most significant renovations and upgrades will take place during Summer 2024 with expected completion by the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
