Campus flu clinic schedules are as follows: Yerger Middle School and Head Start, Oct. 7; Clinton Primary School and ABC Preschool, Oct. 8; Beryl Henry Elementary School, Oct. 9 in morning; Hope High School, Oct. 9, in afternoon; Hope Academy of Public Service, Oct. 10. Contact HPS District Nurse Renee Sells, RN, for additional information at 777-3451 during school hours.

An after-school program is currently underway at Yerger Middle School with students exploring a variety of concepts, according to YMS sponsor Hosea Born. Students have scaled recipes and learned how to make dishes from scratch; created and directed film-style “trailers” for books; and, built and tested engineering concepts for keeping an egg safe when dropped from a ladder. Born said the students have learned you have to break a few eggs to succeed.

The Clinton Primary School Parent Center has been awarded a $250 grant from the James Patterson Scholastic Books Reading Program. The program provides grants for the purchase of books through a partnership between best-selling mystery-suspense author James Patterson and Scholastic Magazine for Children. The new books will be housed in the CPS Parent Center.

Community volunteer readers are needed to read to classes at Clinton Primary School each Friday through the school year. Interested individuals should contact Ken McLemore, HPS Communications Director, at ken.mclemore@hpsdistrict.org online to sign-up.

The Hope Public Schools, in association with Farmer’s Bank and Trust, has launched the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program in Hempstead County. The initiative provides free books to children aged newborn through five years who enroll through the Hope Public Schools. Contact HPS administration at 777-2251 for additional information.
