Registration required for flu immunization

HOPE – Student registration for mass flu immunization clinics planned for the Hope Public Schools is required for students to receive the immunization, HPS District Nurse Renee Sells, RN, announced Friday.

“We must have the student registration form returned to the nurse’s office on the student’s campus or they cannot receive an immunization,” Sells said.

Mass flu immunizations for the district began Monday, Oct. 7, on HPS campuses.

Sells said students cannot receive the flu vaccine at the Bobcat Clinic.

“They can only receive immunizations required by the state at the clinic,” she said.

Hope High School registered 68 immunizations last year, and Sells said only 36 student and teacher registrations have been returned to her office this year. Other campuses have generally fallen behind, as well.

Total student and staff registrations this year compared to 2018-2019 included, Clinton Primary/ABC Preschool, 354 v. 408; Beryl Henry Elementary, 100 v. 106; Hope Academy of Public Service, 75 v. 121. Yerger Middle School/CATS/ABC at 126 v. 115 was the only exception.

“This is serious,” she said.

HPS flu clinics have been scheduled as follows: Yerger Middle School and Head Start, Oct. 7; Clinton Primary School and ABC Preschool, Oct. 8; Beryl Henry Elementary School, Oct. 9 in morning; Hope High School, Oct. 9, in afternoon; and, Hope Academy of Public Service, Oct. 10.
