A lunar eclipse will be visible for people in Arkansas and Oklahoma on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.
The partial eclipse will coincide with a full moon and a supermoon, which occurs when the moon is closest to Earth.
Best Time To Watch
The eclipse will begin at 7:41 p.m. Central Time, but it will be difficult to notice until the Earth's shadow starts to cover the top edge of the moon at 9:13 p.m.
The eclipse will peak at 9:44 p.m.
There could be clouds in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley, but conditions will likely be clear enough to see the eclipse.
The moon will finish exiting the full shadow at 10:16 p.m. and the partial shadow at 11:47 p.m.
What Is A Lunar Eclipse?
A lunar eclipse is when the moon passes into the Earth's shadow. This means that relatively little of the sun's light makes it to the moon.
The sunlight that does make it to the lunar surface has passed through the Earth's atmosphere. This light is at a longer, redder wavelength, making the moon appear red.
"It's as if all the world's sunrises and sunsets are projected onto the moon," according to NASA.
